The body of a 5-year-old girl was found in Vincennes’s Wabash River on Thursday night, and the police are now conducting an investigation.
A child who was playing in the river at Vincennes’ Kimmell Park vanished, according to a 911 call that Knox County Dispatch officials said they received at 2:40 p.m.
Several agencies raced to the site, according to a DNR report, and started deploying boats, sonar, and dive teams to look for the girl.
The girl’s body was discovered by conservation officer divers close to the park’s boat ramp, according to officials, just before 7:15 p.m.
The investigation led to the arrest and charging of Vincennes resident Deonna Hollingsworth, 26, for neglect of a dependent. The probe is still going on.
