Kelley captures Trans Am race after a wild finish at Laguna Seca
During more than half of Sunday’s Trans Am Western Championship race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Kyle Kelley had to watch battles unfold ahead of him.
Tim Barber was leading the TA2 class with Tim Carroll close behind. Michelle Nagai was dominating the race overall until some mishaps occurred in the second part of the doubleheader event.
As time passed, Kelley, driving the no. 80 PK+k Properties Ford Mustang, seized the opportunity and secured his first career Trans Am victory after some chaos on the track.
Carroll managed to pass Barber, leading to some intense dueling between the two, allowing Kelley to sneak into the TA2 lead after a contact incident between Barber and Carroll.
Despite Barber’s attempts to challenge Kelley, he couldn’t overtake him. Kelley tactfully defended his position toward the end of the race.
Nagai, driving the no. 72 XGT-class Nagai Racing Camaro, had a smooth run at the front until a mechanical issue forced her out of the lead and the race, although she still managed to win the XGT class.
