Ian McKellen, the legendary actor known for his iconic role as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, was hospitalized after a fall from the stage during a performance in London on Monday.

The 85-year-old actor slipped during a fight scene in “Player Kings,” a play based on Shakespeare’s “Henry IV” at the Noel Coward Theatre, leaving the audience shocked.

According to the Associated Press, a theater spokesperson mentioned that McKellen is expected to recover fully. Representatives for McKellen have not yet responded to requests for comments.

Playing the role of Sir John Falstaff, a renowned character in Shakespeare’s works, McKellen’s portrayal captivated audiences before the incident occurred.

After undergoing a scan, doctors have assured that McKellen will have a swift and complete recovery and is currently in good spirits. The producers of “Player Kings” expressed gratitude for the well wishes received from the audience and the public. To allow McKellen to recuperate, the performance scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.
