After Suffering A Terrible Injury, Cameron Brink Speaks Up And Delivers A Message
The Los Angeles Sparks’ greatest fears were realized on Wednesday when the team announced that standout youngster Cameron Brink had sustained a horrific injury the previous evening that required surgery on his left knee, a ruptured ACL, which would keep the forward out of the game for the entire 2024 WNBA season. Brink was only a few weeks away from flying to Paris to compete in the Summer Olympics, so her injury is a bitter pill for the rebuilt Sparks stomach. But if Brink gets her wish, in 2025 she will return to the court sooner rather than later and play even better.
You Never Expect An Injury
Wednesday, following On Sparks’ admission of the full severity of her injury, Brink posted a message to her 1.2 million Instagram followers. She began by stating that “you never anticipate that (an ACL injury) may come to you” and that it was hard for her to believe that her rookie period was finished after 15 games. “I’m not going to let this life get in the way of my goals,” Brink said in a caption that ended with the hashtag #delayednotdenied. “I’m not specified by basketball, yet it is a thing that I love passionately, and I will work daily to return to it.”
She Will Face Challenges
Before sustaining a non-contact wound on a cut to the edge against the Connecticut Sun on the night of Tuesday, Brink was averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Brink, along with fellow rookie Rickea Jackson, is a symbol of the Sparks’ future as the historic team looks to contend for a title in the upcoming seasons. Tennis player Coco Gauff and WNBA players Angel Reese, A’ja Wilson, and Breanna Stewart all endorsed Brink’s post, expressing their desire to see her return to the court. She will face challenges unlike anything she has faced in the past as she begins the process of healing from this ligament injury.
