Jayson “Jace” Scott, the 23-year-old son of Remy Ma, has been taken into custody and is accused of killing someone in 2021, according to New York City police.
In a statement, the authorities informed PEOPLE that Scott and an additional suspect were apprehended on Tuesday, June 18, about the June 7, 2021, shooting death of Darius Guillebeaux, 47. The New York Post and WNYW, a TV station in New York, broke the initial news on the charges.
The New York Police Department said in a statement to PEOPLE that Scott is accused of first- and second-degree murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, and two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

The incident in 2021 took place in Queens, the NYPD confirmed to PEOPLE. On June 7, 2021, officers were called to the intersection of 148 Street and Rockaway Boulevard in response to a report of a guy shot.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 47-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest,” police said. “EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.”
Guillebeaux was subsequently recognized as the victim.
It’s unknown if Scott or Swygert have hired legal counsel to provide comments on their behalf. Wednesday’s arraignment is anticipated, according to WNYW.
Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, gave PEOPLE the following statement on Wednesday afternoon.
“As many have heard, Remy Ma’s son, Jayson Scott was recently arrested and grave unfounded allegations have been made. Remy Ma wished to address this situation personally but has been strongly advised by our office not to say anything publicly – as most people in this situation are, as the case is still active. To be clear, Jayson Scott is innocent and Remy Ma is committed to proving his innocence and fully supporting her child during this time.”
“We stand by Jayson’s innocence and hope the NYPD will conduct a complete and thorough investigation to reveal the truth. This has undoubtedly been a trying time for Remy Ma and her family. While she sincerely appreciates the love and support she has received, we kindly ask that her privacy be respected as their legal team works to prove Jayson’s innocence.”
The Grammy-nominated hip-hop star showed her pride in her kids in an Instagram photo from 2018.
“My baby forever! My “Punkin” My 1st born. My son. I had him when I was so young & thought I knew it all🤦🏽♀️😏,” the “Lean Back” rapper wrote at the time, along with family photos. “We grew up together.”

Following a shooting in New York in 2007, she was found guilty of assault, possession of a firearm, and attempt to coerce, and she was sentenced to six years in jail.
