Three years don’t seem like they have passed since the announcement of a European Super League, and although talk of such a league rapidly fizzled out, it is still being discussed. Football is driven by money more than ever before; mercato prices are at what seems like an all-time high, and the amount of money being tossed around the game is absurd.
Of course, there are advantages to this. As Milan has seen recently, increased interest in the sport raises interest in clubs, which in turn raises the teams’ market value. That being said, it is unlikely that the Rossoneri would ever enter a league of that nature, given that Gerry Cardinale claimed the rivalry.
Super League
Michel Platini gave a verdict to Le Figaro this morning regarding the potential harm that could result from the creation of a “super league” and his thoughts on the direction that football is progressively taking.
