Recently, there has been a lot of speculation about CeeDee Lamb’s future. If negotiations fail, the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver may be dealt. Although there aren’t any reliable rumors that Lamb is looking for a trade, Dallas only has a 2024 deal with the 25-year-old.
The Broncos of Denver are keen to acquire a new top wide receiver in terms of potential trading partners. The team’s leader is Courtland Sutton; however, Jerry Jeudy was moved to the Cleveland Browns this summer.
The worst-case situation for Dallas would be to trade Lamb. He has established himself as one of the best receivers in the NFL and appears to be improving. But in the worst-case scenario, the Cowboys must be prepared to cope with him.
Given his skill set, Lamb ought to fetch a high trade return. But in less than a year, any team he deals with must re-sign him. In addition to possible trade components, the Broncos will have a pick in each draft round the following year.
Based on a recent piece by Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report, the probable return is that the Broncos would forfeit Sutton and a second or third-round selection in exchange for Lamb. Although Sutton is not as good as he once was, he is still among the NFL’s most prolific wide receivers.
Lamb Is Resilient During Training Camp:
Lamb seems prepared to press the matter on behalf of Dallas. Calvin Watkins of Dallas Morning News reports that the former Oklahoma Sooner receiver would skip training camp if a new contract is not reached.
It nearly seemed inevitable to extend Lamb after he broke the Cowboys’ record for receiving yards. Instead, as July approaches, neither he nor quarterback Dak Prescott from Dallas has received an extension.
Not a single club doesn’t want Lamb on their roster, but paying him isn’t the easy part. According to Spotrac, Dallas is currently $20 million above the salary cap.
That number will undoubtedly alter before the 2024 regular season, though it’s unclear how. Lamb’s trade would have a significant impact, but losing the team’s best offensive weapon in exchange would be a considerable problem.
What the Cowboys Could Gain from Courtland Sutton?
Sutton’s time in the NFL has not been easy. Despite producing at a high rate, the former SMU standout has not advanced to the postseason with Denver and has faced a challenging quarterback rotation.
Every season has been strong except for an injury-plagued 2020 campaign. Regarding output, Sutton’s worst year was during his debut season 2018, when he finished with 704 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Sutton attempted to manage another problematic year of quarterbacking with Jarrett Stidham and Russell Wilson in 2023. With ten touchdown catches, Sutton continued accumulating 772 receiving yards and cemented his position as the team’s top red zone threat.
Visiting Sutton would also be economical. According to Spotrac, the 28-year-old is only owed $26.5 million in compensation over the following two years. It’s a wise investment for that type of output.
