Since fans first noticed Rife’s flirtatious remarks on Lord’s Instagram in the summer, the comedian and his girlfriend, actress and dancer Jessica Lord, have been linked.

Two months after admitting on Good Morning America in August that he wasn’t single, Rife talked candidly about his relationship with Lord to PEOPLE.

“It’s newer, but I prefer to keep it on the more private side. Just because, I mean, people are insane,” he said.

But he continued, saying that Lord has been “so important to my infrastructure,” given the hectic year he’s had since starting his ProbleMATTic World Tour, which has seen over 750,000 tickets sold.

Lord was born in the little town of Rochdale, England, which is located outside of Manchester in the country’s north. In response to criticism of her distinct accent, which combines elements of Scottish, Canadian, and British, the actress provided additional background information.

“I spent most of my childhood in Canada so I feel like I’ve got the Canadian intonation but still with the northern vowels,” she said in a TikTok video. “I was close with my family and still am close with my family and when I was filming in Europe, I would go and visit my family in the U.K. I never lost my roots but I don’t think it’s as thick as it would be if I was still there of course.”
