Model Rachael Lange, who resides in New York City and is rumoured to be Dylan O’Brien’s girlfriend, has apologized after her offensive tweets from the past reappeared. Many of these tweets featured the N-word.
Lange apologized on Twitter on Monday, January 23, stating that she was “mortified and ashamed” of the previous posts.
“I would like to wholeheartedly apologise for past tweets of mine. I am mortified and ashamed that they exist, and am truly disgusted that I ever spoke that way,” Lange posted on Twitter. “I’m not here to write them off or make excuses. All I can say is that I hear you all and I’m so sorry for the pain I’ve caused and contributed to.”
The 25-year-old model, who is signed to Elite Model Management, continued: “I want to make it abundantly clear that I take full responsibility. I was extremely ignorant and while I do not remotely resonate with the things I once said, there is zero justification for my ever having said them.”
“I understand the significance that my words have and am deeply sorry for the hurt I have caused,” she concluded.
After the model was sighted at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month with actor Dylan O’Brien, who played Stiles Stilinski in the MTV drama series Teen Wolf, her controversial former tweets came back to light. The two were seen holding hands on January 19 at the Alexandre Mattiussi Menswear Fall-Winter 2023–2024 show, according to a video uploaded to TikTok.
Pop Faction, a celebrity gossip account, reposted Lange’s deleted tweets back on Twitter. Since then, people have criticized the model for speaking insensitively about Taylor Swift, making jokes about rape, using homophobic slurs, and using racist words.
After Dylan O’Brien, who portrayed Stiles Stilinski in the MTV drama series Teen Wolf, was sighted with the model at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, Lange’s previous contentious tweets came back to light. The two might be seen holding hands in a video uploaded to TikTok of them attending the Alexandre Mattiussi Menswear Fall-Winter 2023–2024 presentation on January 19.
Although Lange’s tweets have since been removed, Pop Faction, a celebrity gossip account, has reposted them on Twitter. Since then, people have criticized the model for using derogatory language toward people of colour, making jokes about rape, using homophobic slurs, and making hurtful comments about Taylor Swift.
“Dylan O’Brien’s girlfriend Rachael Lange is currently being called out for being racist after multiple Tweets of her using the N-word resurfaced online. She has since deleted the tweets and blocked a few people on TikTok who called her out,” tweeted @PopFactions on 21 January, followed by a video featuring screenshots of Lange’s since-deleted tweets.
According to the screenshots, Lange often and casually used the N-word in his tweets from 2013 to 2016. Lange made fun of being a “paedophile” in a 2013 tweet by claiming to have “various pictures of small Black children on [her] phone.”
“How in the hell is a [N-word] supposed to get some decent sleep when there are 17 coo coo clocks in this house?” was one tweet from November 2013.
The director of Dylan O’Brien in All Too Well: The Short Film, Taylor Swift, was also called a “whore” in a different tweet dated June 1, 2016.
