Man accused of carjacking woman at gunpoint at Deerfield Beach gas station
A 28-year-old Miami man, Elias Orlando Caldoza, was arrested on Tuesday for carjacking a woman at gunpoint at a Deerfield Beach gas station. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at the Chevron station on West Hillsboro Boulevard.
Caldoza, wearing a black mask, approached the victim as she was pumping gas and smoking a cigarette. He pointed a gun at her, demanding her car keys and iPhone 14. When she asked if he was joking, he cocked the gun, causing her to fear for her life and hand over the items.
The stolen vehicle was later spotted by Margate police, who followed it until it crashed near Sample Road and the Sawgrass Expressway. Caldoza fled on foot but was detained by Coral Springs police.
Caldoza, a convicted felon and “violent felony offender of special concern,” is currently on probation for auto theft. He faces charges of armed robbery/carjacking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of probation, and wearing a mask while committing a felony.
