On Thursday, July 4, Britain’s Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party, Rishi Sunak, will run for reelection. Since October 2022, Sunak has served as prime minister. He got married to Akshata Murty, an Indian woman from a prosperous family.

Murty’s father, N.R. Narayana Murthy, is estimated by Forbes to be worth $4.7 billion, ranking him 669th in the world based on the publication’s real-time estimates as of July 4. His co-founding of the Indian tech giant Infosys, which offers information technology and business consulting services, is the source of his riches.

Having begun his career at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker, Sunak is also a high earner. In the tax year of 2022–2023, he earned almost $2.8 million (£2.2 million), based on his most recent tax return; nonetheless, this is only a minor portion of the couple’s overall net worth.

Sunak and his spouse’s combined net worth is estimated to be $830 million (£651 million) on The Sunday Times’ 2024 Rich List. As a result, Sunak is now the richest person to hold the position of prime minister in British history and their family is now ranked 245th in terms of wealth. King Charles III, who came in at number 258 on the list, was placed lower than the pair.

The couple has faced criticism in the past due to Murty’s non-domicile status in the United Kingdom, which exempted her from paying taxes in the country on any money earned outside of the country, including the stock she owns in her father’s company. But in April 2022, amidst backlash from the public, it was revealed that Murty had declared she would pay British tax on her foreign earnings.
