The ACC has reached an agreement with Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody, in the lawsuit regarding the sharing of redacted versions of its ESPN contracts and related documents.
This resolution brings an end to the legal dispute that arose when Moody’s office sued the ACC in April in Leon County, Florida. The Attorney General argued that the contracts should be made public as they involve the business of a state entity, Florida State University, or a group acting on its behalf, the ACC.
As part of the agreement, the shared records will be made public, although the conference will be allowed to redact what it deems as trade secrets. This development is significant as the full contracts play a crucial role in the ongoing litigation between Florida State and the ACC. Moody expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that the ACC’s decision to produce the media contracts is a step towards transparency.
The ACC is set to share the redacted documents by August 1, with the understanding that Florida State will maintain their confidentiality and only use them within the context of the legal proceedings. Prior to this agreement, access to the ESPN contract was restricted, with schools like FSU and Clemson allowed to review the documents at the league’s North Carolina headquarters under strict confidentiality guidelines. This move towards transparency marks a positive development in the legal dispute between the parties involved.
