Boat Dedication Honors Legacy of Fallen DPS Trooper (DPS-Northwest Texas Region)
Today in Amarillo, a poignant ceremony took place at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial, where the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) dedicated a new boat in memory of Trooper Matthew Dewayne Myrick. The vessel, named Patrol Vessel Myrick, will join the DPS’ Tactical Marine Unit stationed at the Texas-Mexico border.
The dedication ceremony was attended by Trooper Myrick’s family, State Representative Four Price, DPS Regional Director Joe Longway, Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee, fellow Troopers, and other local law enforcement and elected officials.
Representative Price highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This boat dedication is a meaningful way to honor the courageous legacy of Trooper Matthew Myrick. It serves as a reminder that the Texas Department of Public Safety never forgets the heroic individuals who gave their lives in the line of duty serving our community.”
Regional Director Longway praised the dedication as a fitting tribute to Myrick’s service, noting, “Trooper Matthew Myrick lived serving others, first as a member of the United States Navy and then as a Texas Highway Patrolman. The boat dedication is a testament to his sacrifice and selfless service. The vessel carrying Trooper Myrick’s name will continue to protect the citizens of this great state with the same distinction and honor he demonstrated.”
