Iveson Cheri, who is only eighteen, is already charged with killing a man while operating a vehicle in Florida while his blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit for drivers who are at least twenty-one. Cheri was freed on Saturday under bond. In a Sunday bail court appearance, the judge imposed an order prohibiting him from driving and set his bond at $10,000 for the vehicular homicide charge and $5,000 for the DUI manslaughter charge.

Cheri is scheduled to appear in court on the morning following his 19th birthday. This is in relation to the arraignment hearing of Mekhi Tariq Hoosein-Quiles, 21, of Miramar. Mekhi passed away on July 2 in Miami Gardens after stopping at a red light.

According to court records, Cheri was charged by investigators with striking Hoosein-Quiles’ orange 2005 Ford Focus with a light blue 2022 Infiniti Q60 at Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest 22 Avenue at approximately 4 a.m. on July 2. The accusation led to the issuance of a warrant for Cheri’s arrest on Wednesday.

Grieving family members recalled Hoosein-Quiles’s graduation from Miramar High School, his five years of employment at McDonald’s, and his plans to enroll in St. Thomas University a few days later, during the funeral.

Cheri was speeding and had a blood alcohol content of.205%, according to the arrest record. When he was taken into custody by the police on Friday, he had a scar on his forehead from the collision and was hospitalized. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Christine Hernandez is set to preside over the case at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building.
