US diver Alison Gibson said that she suffered scratches and bruises after colliding with the board during Wednesday’s 3m women’s springboard competition. During her first dive in the competition’s preliminary round, Gibson performed a somersault while tucking her feet into the springboard.

Gibson’s chances of winning an Olympic medal were virtually dashed when she stumbled clumsily into the water, causing the crowd to scream in shock. She received 0 points for the dive. With all the poise she could summon, Gibson continued and completed her final four dives, finishing last and bringing her adventure to a close in Paris.

“I pounded the board with my feet and heels. There are cuts on the sides of me. Gibson, crying, stated, “I was determined to keep going even though I had pretty serious bruises on my right heel and both of my feet were still raw.” “I was clearly hurting. However, I do say this: I hope that anyone viewing might just see what it looks like to pick yourself up and carry on even when things don’t go as planned. It concerns the fight. It’s obvious that today didn’t go as planned. However, I really believe that every experience may teach you something new, and I sincerely hope that the athletes of the future realize this.

After placing last in the synchronized 3m springboard event in the Tokyo Games three years prior, the 25-year-old nearly retired. But she made the decision to go back to the sport in order to bring attention to issues outside of the pool. Her Olympic experience is intended to draw attention to Missions of Hope International, a non-profit organization that she is supporting a school child in Kenya.

“I made the decision that I wanted to do more than just return for the diving; I wanted to make a difference,” she remarked. “My goal is to have all of the students at that school sponsored by the time the Olympics conclude. I sincerely hope that people around me are positively impacted by the bravery I shown today.
