Put on hold A Labour councillor has been detained on suspicion of inciting murder after a video showing the councillor urging violent action against anti-immigration demonstrators and declaring that their “throats should be cut” surfaced.
The Independent said that Dartford, Kent, councillor Ricky Jones was caught on camera during a demonstration on Wednesday night in Walthamstow, east London, intended to dissuade the far-right from attacking refugee centers and the offices of attorneys who represent asylum seekers.
Jones stated, “We need to cut all their throats and get rid of them,” during the address. He then started chanting “free, free Palestine” among the crowd after finishing his speech.
His arrest under the Public Order Act in relation to the incident has been confirmed by the Metropolitan police. An arrest has taken place at a south-east London property involving a man in his 50s. On X, the Metropolitan Police made a statement. He was detained for an offense under the Public Order Act and on suspicion of promoting murder. “He is being held at a police station in south London,” they continued.
Leader of Reform UK Nigel Farage posted on X after the video was made public and stated that Jones ought to be taken into custody. In his tweet, Farage mentioned the Metropolitan Police and stated, “This man needs to be arrested. We are aware of two-tier policing if not. A Labour spokesperson said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated. The councillor has been suspended from the party.”
