Shooting incident on Vanderbilt lead to arrest of two suspects

The Metro Nashville Police confirmed to Fox News Digital that two men have been taken into custody in relation to a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Vanderbilt University and resulted in one person being injured. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and involved an argument between members of a construction crew working at Sutherland House, a residence hall; the dorm was unoccupied at the time of the shooting incident. The suspects were apprehended and identified as Luis Enrique Ramirez Sandoval, 38, and Jose Humberto, 27, who are charged with the shooting incident that occurred on the Vanderbilt campus on Saturday. Both men were arrested by Vanderbilt at nearby market.

A university-wide advisory to avoid the area was sent out by campus police in response to the incident. Investigating a shooting near a residence hall on campus on Saturday afternoon, Nashville’s Metro Police joined Vanderbilt police. Officials from Vanderbilt University reported that three patients were admitted to the hospital with injuries that did not pose a threat to their lives. The man, who was 19 years old, was shot in the arm, according to Metro Nashville Police.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Vanderbilt University stated that it is collaborating with law enforcement on the investigation involving outside contractors who were doing repairs at the dorm.

A report of a shooting on Saturday afternoon prompted the issuance of an alert for the Vanderbilt campus.

“There is no ongoing threat to the university campus. Currently, two individuals remain in custody and three individuals have been transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries,” the university said in a statement. Police said a firearm was found on Sandoval and he was charged with aggravated assault.
