An altercation that culminated on Sunday night at the Publix at Mariner Commons has resulted in the arrest of three teenage suspects. Deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting report at the Publix at Mariner Commons in Spring Hill on August 18 at 7:40 p.m. As they arrived, deputies discovered multiple victims near a parked car close to the Publix. After a shooting at the Mariner’s Cay Apartments at the intersection of Mariner Boulevard and Northcliffe Boulevard, five teenage boys in all were in the car that drove to Publix.
The teens started receiving gunshots as they were entering the apartment complex, according to the investigation. After retreating right after, they drove to Mariner Commons, where at least one of the teenagers went inside the Publix to request. Bullets fired by the attacker struck three of the teenagers inside the car. A 16-year-old boy was among the youngsters who were taken to a nearby hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his wounds. Ages 15 and 17, the other two teenagers who were shot, were also taken to nearby hospitals and are anticipated to fully recover.
Due to their age, three teenagers who will remain anonymous were swiftly identified and taken into custody by deputies. They were located at an apartment in Mariner’s Cay by deputies. According to the inquiry, a few of the youngsters were involved in an ongoing quarrel that resulted in a physical confrontation, which was the cause of the shooting. One teen was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The second teen was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder, accessory after the fact. The third teen was charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. All three suspects were transported to Hernando County Detention Center, where one is being held without bond. The other two were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Ocala, where they are being detained without bond.
