As part of an ongoing investigation into trafficking, underage sex, and associated offenses, armed police invaded the house of misogynistic social media celebrity Andrew Tate on Wednesday, according to an Associated Press (AP) report. Tate, 37, is well-known for his divisive opinions and has been accused of sexual abuse and exploitation. He was accused of human trafficking, rape, and organizing a criminal gang alongside his 36-year-old brother Tristan last year. The brothers are still awaiting trial while they are under house arrest and contest these charges.

The newest raid by the Romanian anti-organized crime prosecuting unit, DIICOT, reportedly centered on claims of money laundering, human trafficking, and having sex with a juvenile. This is according to the story published by the Associated Press. At Tate’s property, numerous armed police officers were observed forcing access with a battering ram. Hearings would take place later at the agency’s headquarters, according to the statement.

According to the AP, Mateea Petrescu, a spokesman for Tate, confirmed the raid but clarified that the precise accusations were unclear. She also emphasized the need for a legal team to ensure that the procedures are conducted properly. “The investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence, throughout the entire criminal process,” DIICOT stated in its statement, according to the AP.
