Over 40 people in Ukrainian city of Poltava have been killed by a Russian missile strike
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, two Russian ballistic missiles caused at least 41 fatalities and 180 injuries when they targeted a military training center and a local hospital in a central-eastern region of Ukraine on Tuesday. The strike took place in the capital of the region bearing the same name, Poltava, according to authorities. 150 miles (350 kilometers) to the southeast of Kiev is where you’ll find Poltava. Situated near the Russian border, the city is well-served by buses and trains that go between Kyiv and Kharkiv, the country’s second-biggest city.
In Sudzha, in the Kursk area of western Russia, on August 16, a damaged statue of Soviet Union founder Vladimir Lenin occupies a central square. Following a cross-border assault into Russia on August 6, Ukrainian forces claim to have taken control of Sudzha, one of more than 80 towns and villages they have occupied. On February 24, 2022, Russian forces looked to have carried out one of their bloodiest strikes since the start of the war, which was over 900 days ago.
“Partially demolished was one of the Poltava Military Institute of Communications’ buildings. People were discovered beneath the debris. Zelenskyy stated in a video that was uploaded to his Telegram channel, “Many were saved.” “All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation,” he added. He declared that he had given the order for “a full and prompt investigation” into the events. Zelenskyy withheld further information.
On July 10, near Velykyi Bychkiv, Ukraine, border guards from Ukraine pose with their dog on a pebble beach along the Tisza River, which borders Romania. Many people were heading to a bomb shelter when the air raid alert went out, and that’s when the missiles struck, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, which called the strike “barbaric.” A Defense Ministry statement stated that 25 individuals were saved by rescue teams and medical personnel, 11 of whom were extricated from the wreckage. Governor Filip Pronin of Poltava declared a three-day mourning period beginning on Wednesday.
Pronin posted on his Telegram profile, “A great tragedy for Poltava region and entire Ukraine.” “The enemy certainly must answer for all (its) crimes against humanity,” he said. On May 26, Oleksii Kharkivskyi, the head of Vovchansk’s patrol police, was spotted in his police vehicle in an unnamed area of Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, was visiting Mongolia on the day of the strike. Demands to place him under international arrest for alleged war crimes were not met with any indication that his hosts would comply.
Zelenskyy reiterated his request that Ukraine’s Western allies guarantee the prompt delivery of military assistance. He has already chastised the United States and Europe for their tardiness in fulfilling their aid promises. Additionally, he wants them to loosen the limitations on what Ukraine can use their provided weaponry for on Russian territory. Some nations worry that attacking Russia may intensify the conflict.
