Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker described the search for Flaz as a “full-court press” involving digital forensics, aerial surveillance by a Massachusetts State Police aircraft, and collaboration among several agencies. The search extended to various locations, but it wasn’t until Tuesday evening that investigators were led to a wooded area near Winnekenni Castle beside Kenoza Lake in Haverhill.

A Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit located her remains, bringing a heartbreaking end to the four-day search. Lawrence Mayor Brian DePena expressed the city’s sorrow, saying, “It’s a tough day for the city of Lawrence.”
Following the discovery, 35-year-old Christian Montero, a resident of the same apartment building as Flaz, was arrested. Initially charged with witness intimidation and misleading the investigation, authorities expect these charges to be upgraded to murder pending the results of a medical examination.
