According to reports, the man suspected of killing a married couple in their 70s from California who vanished from their home at a nudist resort was found lurking under a house, along with human remains.

According to authorities, Daniel Menard, 79, and Stephanie Menard, 73, were last seen on August 24. Their automobile was discovered that same day, unlocked, just down the street from their house, as Law&Crime had previously reported. There were two smartphones belonging to the couple in the house along with Stephanie Menard’s pocketbook. Their little white Shih Tzu dog, Cuddles, was also gone.

The pair resided at the Olive Dell Ranch in San Bernardino, which is marketed as a “favorite nudist resort for families and couples” and is an RV park about 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. As one friend told the local ABC affiliate KABC, “there’s no way that Stephanie or Dan could have walked away from that car,” neighbors claim the couple would not have picked up and left. Additionally, police said that Stephanie Menard walks with a cane and that Daniel Menard has diabetes and dementia.

Before entering the neighboring property, armed policemen raided it and employed heavy machinery, including a battering ram. On Friday, police made the arrest of Michael Royce Sparks, 62.

According to court documents, Sparks is accused with two charges of murder under unusual circumstances. If found guilty, Sparks could receive the death penalty in the Golden State. Additionally, according to records, Sparks was still being held as of Wednesday.

Sparks was reportedly not at the raided house when it happened, but authorities claimed he was later discovered beneath a house, as reported by The Associated Press. Reportedly, human remains were found in a concrete bunker beneath the house one day later. The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to the AP that while the remains were thought to be those of the Menards, they could not confirm it right away.

According to the authorities, they don’t think there are any more victims in this case. According to friends of the Menards, they have been harassed and are involved in a lawsuit against the ranch; they fear this is connected to their disappearance. The Associated Press reports that Sparks was supposed to appear in court on Wednesday. Whether he was represented by counsel was not immediately apparent.
