After being arrested for shoplifting, a 13-year-old girl from the Pittsburgh region went missing early last month and was later found in a Pennsylvania jail with adult inmates, according to the prosecutor. She had lied to the police about her age and name.

Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible stated on Tuesday that the girl was eventually identified as missing by someone working at the jail, which prompted authorities to take her away from the adult inmates. The allegations against the youngster were then transferred to juvenile court, he added, and her parents were alerted and came to pick her up.

On August 6, Pittsburgh police released details on the adolescent missing person. Later, rumors claimed that the kid had been spotted in the city, using public transportation. Bible reported that on August 17, the girl was apprehended taking merchandise from a Beaver Falls store and was then charged with retail theft. She gave the police a fictitious name and birthdate at the time, making them think she was eighteen.

After the adolescent eventually admitted to the authorities on multiple occasions that she was a minor from the Pittsburgh region, they promised to release her to her parents. Bible claimed that the child had misled them into believing that she was homeless. In an effort to gather information about her during this time, Beaver Falls police contacted child services organizations in Beaver County and Allegheny County, which is home to Pittsburgh. However, because she had provided officials with a false name, no records were discovered, according to Bible.
