Pillowcase Rapist’ who admitted to sexually assaulting 100 women is set to be released again after violating conditions the 1st time
Los Angeles: A court hearing has been scheduled for October 1 to determine the location where Christopher Hubbart, a 73-year-old convicted rapist, will be released, according to an announcement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The Department of State Hospitals has recommended placing Hubbart in the Antelope Valley, located about 80 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Hubbart’s conditional release was granted in March 2023 despite opposition from prosecutors.
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón voiced his disapproval of the decision, stating, “Continuing to release sexually violent predators into underserved communities like the Antelope Valley is both irresponsible and unjust.” Gascón further criticized the judicial system for repeatedly placing dangerous individuals in the same community, calling for alternative locations to be explored.
Hubbart, known as the “Pillowcase Rapist” due to his method of muffling his victims’ screams, was convicted in 1972 for the rape of 14 women. After being released on parole in 1983, he raped 10 more women before being returned to prison. He has admitted to raping more than 100 women across California between 1971 and 1983, including 26 in Los Angeles County.
Hubbart’s history of reoffending and repeated parole violations has led to widespread concern. In a letter opposing his release, former LA County Sheriff John Scott emphasized Hubbart’s extreme danger, describing him as “the most prolific and violent rapist I have encountered in 45 years of California law enforcement.”
Although Hubbart was returned to the Department of State Hospitals after violating his release terms in 2016, the department recommended his conditional release in 2021. The rationale for this decision remains unclear, with officials citing patient privacy laws as a reason for not commenting.
