Suspect Nabbed In Brutal Carjacking Of An 87 Year Old Man At Hialeah Sedano’s
After being carjacked near a Hialeah Sedano’s grocery, an elderly man was brutally thrown out of a car, and authorities reported that a suspect is currently being charged in connection with the incident. Osmani Menendez, 38, was taken into custody on Wednesday on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping, battery on a person 65 years of age or older, burglary with assault or battery, and armed robbery.
Carjacking Of 87 Year Old Man
The incident reportedly occurred earlier on Wednesday in the grocery store’s parking lot at 1170 West 49th Street. The 87-year-old victim had the car’s ignition on as he waited for his son to get out of the Sedano while seated in the seat in the front of his 2025 Chevrolet Trax. According to the report, the victim attempted to shove the suspect out of the way after he unlocked the driver’s door and realized it wasn’t his son.
The Suspect Of Carjacking
After a short while, the suspect drove off as the victim remained inside the vehicle, stopping at West 10th Avenue and 49th Street. Before the suspect fled in the car, the victim tried to get out and the suspect pushed him in the back, forcing the victim to tumble down in the middle of the road. After walking back to the Sedano’s parking lot, the elderly guy met his son, who dialed 911. Menendez was hauled into jail after an Opa-locka Police sergeant saw him driving the automobile on Interstate 95.
Police tracked the vehicle using the victim’s smartphone, which was still inside. Menendez’s attire and the suspect’s description, which were captured by Sedano’s surveillance, matched the occurrence. After being taken into custody, Menendez was brought before a court on Thursday, who granted him a public defender and mandated that he be kept without bond.
