Kentucky: On Sunday, authorities looked for a man they believe was responsible for shooting 12 cars and injuring five people on a busy interstate in a rough, hilly region of southeast Kentucky. After investigators claimed to have found Joseph A. Couch’s SUV on a service road close to the murder scene, the 32-year-old was designated as a suspect in the gunshots that occurred on Saturday on Interstate 75.

Shooting At Southeast Of Kentucky

Later on, they discovered a semi-automatic gun close by, which they think was used in the shooting. A secluded region north of London, a hamlet of around 8,000 inhabitants situated 75 miles (120 kilometers) south of Lexington, was the main focus of the search. After dusk on Sunday, the search was put on hold for the time being, but it was scheduled to get back up early on Monday. Spokesman for the London state police post, Master Trooper Scottie Pennington of the state police, stated that more troopers are being dispatched from other parts of the state to support the manhunt.

Investigations On Assailant

Authorities tried to reassure locals that they think the criminal will be found during an evening press conference. The last place Couch called home was Woodbine, a tiny town located roughly 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of the shooting site. According to Acciardo, authorities discovered his abandoned car on Saturday and an AR-15 gun in a forested location close to a roadway on Sunday, from where he may have fired down upon the interstate. Law enforcement discovered a phone they thought belonged to Couch, but the battery was removed.

According to the authorities, Couch bought the firearm and roughly 1,000 rounds of ammo on Saturday morning in London. Couch has a military history, according to Captain Richard Dalrymple of the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. He served in the National Guard for at least four years. Prior to being promoted to a suspect on Sunday, Couch was regarded as a person of interest in the case. According to the authorities, there was just one shooter.

Planning Behind The Shooting

Although there appears to have been some strategy behind the shooting, it seemed to be an act of random violence without a clear aim. He refused to hazard a guess as to the reason for it. At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, gunshots close to exit 49 of the highway were reported to the authorities. A person exiting that area fired several bullets into the southbound and northbound lanes. Nine cars were hit by gunfire, but that number was later raised to twelve since some of the victims did not know their cars had been hit by bullets until they got home.

Twenty to thirty shots were fired by the gunman in all. When the shooting started, the gunman was not in a car. On Sunday, the injured one from Kentucky and many from out of state were admitted to the hospital in stable condition. A few had quite critical wounds, one of whom was shot in the face. Laurel County residents were on edge as police searched a remote, sparsely inhabited forested region near a highway using a drone, a helicopter, and foot search methods.
