Deputy Marbella Martinez, 25, was found dead at home on August 1; her death was deemed suspicious; the tragedy occurred seven months after she finished from the academy and took her oath as a corrections officer. Authorities have now, over a month later, unveiled their startling theory regarding the case: 54 year old Hector Ramon Martinez-Ayala of Tooele, Utah, stalked his own daughter like a jealous lover, took her underwear and stored it in a bag in his room, strangled her, and then fled the nation. He then texted his twin brother to tell him he made a terrible mistake and that he had to leave and never return. After learning that Martinez-Ayala and the victim had been living jointly until the alleged behavior got so bad that it caused her to check into a hotel a few days prior to her death, the prosecution filed charges against him for murder, identity theft, blockage, and stalking.

The victim discovered a bag containing her underwear in Martinez-Ayala’s chamber in February, the month following her sworn in. The defendant, who is becoming more and more obsessed, is charged with sending SMS to his daughter between that time and late July that were more befitting of a possessive lover than a dad. He bought a tracking device and concealed surveillance cameras, put the tracker in the victim’s car, and allegedly accompanied his daughter when she was hiking with a romantic interest a few days prior to the claimed strangulation murder.

However, the victim did visit her father’s home on July 31, and the camera footage that Martinez-Ayala arrived at that afternoon was either erased or never recorded. The defendant allegedly dumped the victim’s cell phone while en route to an airport to leave the country, using his twin brother’s ID to fly to California and Texas and withdraw money from his daughter’s account. The victim was discovered dead in bed with what appeared to be fingernail claw marks on the neck and face.
