MICHAEL STERLING HEIGHTS: Recently, a 50-year-old man was found guilty of killing his girlfriend at their house in 2021, concealing her body, and then taking off with her credit cards, prescription medications, and vehicles.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office reports that on September 4, a jury found Jason Ross guilty of killing his girlfriend, 47-year-old Kathleen Hales, in the first degree as well as of stealing a financial transaction device without permission, larceny from a building, and driving away a motor vehicle without permission. Ross is scheduled to be sentenced on October 10 and faces life without parole for the first-degree murder conviction alone.

Killed his fiancee

Prosecutors claimed that on July 24, 2021, Ross repeatedly stabbed and struck Hales with a hammer at their home, killing her. He ultimately turned himself in to Prescott police after making off with both the victim’s belongings and one of the guns used to kill his fiancée.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido made the following statement in a statement: “The victim’s suffering was described by the medical examiner as nothing less than torture. That shouldn’t have to happen to anyone, especially when it comes from a trustworthy person.

We are grateful to the jury for delivering justice, and our sympathies remain with the victim’s family as they continue to deal with this devastating loss.”
