Virginia: Shooting suspect and his father were interviewed by authorities in May of last year, and the video was made public via body camera footage. After an FBI tip that the 14-year-old was threatening to shoot up a middle school on the social media platform Discord, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies interviewed Colt Gray and his father one year prior to the teen’s charges of four counts of murder for opening fire in his high school’s hallways on Wednesday, September 5.

When Colt Gray was shown in the video joining his father outside, he denied being aware of the potential of a school shooting. To the deputies, the teenager replies, “Maybe they misheard somebody else.” The teenager, who was dressed in sweatpants, a blue shirt, and a blue hat, swayed back and forth while adamantly denying any knowledge of the accusation.

School shooter Adam Lanza

Colt Gray stated he doesn’t “have it anymore” and that he last used Discord “a few months ago” in response to a question about it. The Sandy Hook school shooter Adam Lanza was mentioned in the aforementioned account, according to a story received by The Independent. An examination of the Discord account reveals that, contrary to what the teenager told deputies.

According to the report, an investigation into the Discord account shows that, contrary to what the kid informed deputies, the account was created after the teen claimed to have deleted it. The investigation also showed that the Discord account’s IP addresses appeared to originate from various locations in Georgia in addition to New York and Virginia.

After concluding that “the user behind the Discord account that made the threat cannot be substantiated,” authorities decided to close the inquiry. Additionally, a Discord representative informed CNN that in May 2023, the site banned an account that was “thought to be associated with” Gray for breaking its anti-extremism guidelines.

Gaining children custody

He went on, “We’re up there all the time talking to the school,” and subsequently clarified that his son was being “picked on.” In addition, he clarified that following their “split,” his wife gained custody of their two younger children, leaving Colin and Colt to live apart.

He acknowledged that his son occasionally “gets flustered” and was “struggling with the separation” of his parents. A year later, Colt Gray is charged with killing two classmates, Mason Schermerhorn, 14, and Christian Angulo, 14, as well as two teachers, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53, after allegedly carrying an AR-15-style weapon into his high school and opening fire.

The following day, his father was placed under arrest and accused of eight counts of child abuse, two counts of second-degree murder, and four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Reports state that in December 2023, Colin Gray bought his son an AR-15-style firearm as a holiday present, months after the sheriff’s deputies had looked into the father and son.
