Fatal Confrontation

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when Polk County Sheriff’s deputies received a call about shots being fired in the 1100 block of Fleming Avenue in Lakeland. Upon arrival, they found 32-year-old Alfredo “Freddie” Alfaro-Astello lying in front of his home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics declared Alfaro-Astello dead at the scene. According to the probable cause affidavit, detectives interviewed a neighbor who reported hearing four rapid gunshots but initially dismissed the sounds because gunfire was “not out of the ordinary” in the neighborhood. It wasn’t until about 15 minutes later that the neighbor and her husband discovered Alfaro-Astello’s body outside and called 911.

Witness Testimonies and Investigation

Witnesses told authorities they saw Robinson standing in front of his home near an SUV with another man shortly before the shooting. They claimed they saw Robinson walk toward the corner of the property, heard four gunshots, and saw smoke rising from the area. Robinson was then heard shouting, “How do you like me now?” as the other man fled in apparent fear, the affidavit stated.

Neighbors revealed to investigators that Robinson and Alfaro-Astello had a history of frequent arguments. Earlier in the day, someone had reportedly smashed the windows of Robinson’s home, an act Robinson suspected was related to his ex-girlfriend. Neighbors also claimed Robinson was involved in selling drugs out of his house, adding further tension to the already strained relationship between him and Alfaro-Astello.

Robinson’s Denial and Arrest

When deputies questioned Robinson, he denied any involvement in the shooting. He claimed that he had spent the day at home, playing the video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on his Xbox. He also denied knowing Alfaro-Astello well or having issues with him, despite witness accounts of their ongoing feud.

Initially, Robinson maintained that he had been at home all day. However, when detectives confronted him with video evidence suggesting otherwise, Robinson “suddenly remembered” that he had briefly left to go to a store but changed his mind and returned home. Investigators later found his vehicle at a different location, further raising suspicions.

Although detectives were unable to recover the murder weapon, they discovered fentanyl and marijuana inside Robinson’s residence. His involvement in the shooting and possession of illegal substances led to his arrest on multiple charges, including murder and tampering with evidence. Robinson is currently being held at the Polk County Jail without bond as the investigation continues.
