Returning to prison, the social media model is now accused of DUI manslaughter in the fatal Miami crash
NEW YORK CITY: The Instagram model who was detained for allegedly using a party drug known as “pink cocaine” and speeding through a red light in a Mercedes that killed two men and injured the fiancée of another man while they were on their way to work is now facing more serious charges in the case and has been taken back to jail.
Maecee Lathers, a 24-year-old New Yorker who bills herself as a social media model, recently served time under house arrest with GPS monitoring, but according to local NBC station WTVJ, she was arrested again for driving under the influence.
Use of Drug is confirmed
According to sources, Lathers’ drug use was confirmed by toxicology testing, which led to the filing of charges. In response to charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and fleeing the scene of an accident involving three cars—her Mercedes, a Range Rover, and the Suzuki that Moline, Hernandez, and Rubio were driving—Lathers initially posted bail, as Law&Crime has reported.
Lathers was vomiting when police came on the scene to take her into custody. She allegedly said that she was “from the future and had a crystal ball,” and that she was high on “tusi,” or “2C,” a party drug based on ketamine, sometimes known as “pink cocaine.”
Moments before the tragedy, Lathers is said to have been driving without a valid license at 57 mph. She then allegedly hit the “accelerator at 100%,” increasing her speed to 78 mph and caused the fatal collision. The two men in the Suzuki did not survive, but the man operating the Range Rover, who was 24 years old, did.
Drastically changed in life
Molina’s fiancée Juanita Hernandez was the only one to survive with injuries. Hernandez stated that she was in the front passenger seat and that they were all en route to work on a GoFundMe page following the collision.
“At barely sixteen years old, Abraham’s son has lost the affection and guidance of his father, who was everything to him. I am unable to work at this time due to my injuries, and the young man’s life has drastically changed. Hernandez stated, “His mother, a Parkinson’s patient who resides in Nicaragua, is also mourning, helpless, and without the financial support her son provided.”
The pretrial detention hearing in Lathers’ case is set for September 16 at 9:15 a.m., according to court documents that Law&Crime examined. If found guilty, DUI manslaughter charges carry a minimum four-year jail sentence and a maximum three-decade sentence.
