According to police, a Miami-Dade man detained in Texas planned to kill a victim of sexual assault
FLORIDA’S MIAMI-DADE COUNTY: Authorities revealed on Wednesday that a Miami-Dade man who was detained in Texas on suspicion of armed sexual battery is now being charged with planning to kill the victim while he was being held at the Metrowest Detention Center for trial.
Carlos Alberto Mendez, 43, was reportedly planning to kill the victim of his first crime while incarcerated, according to Miami-Dade police. Mendez was extradited back to Miami-Dade County and is currently facing new accusations of soliciting to commit murder and tampering with a firearm. Mendez was first accused with armed sexual battery when he allegedly attacked a 44-year-old woman, according to a Miami-Dade Police Department arrest record.
Planning victims murder to escape prosecution
According to the authorities, Mendez left Florida in an attempt to avoid being apprehended following the alleged attack. But he was found in Texas by U.S. Marshals, who then detained him and returned him to Miami-Dade County.
Mendez was charged in early August at the MWDC with planning the victim’s murder in order to escape additional prosecution. Mendez confided in another prisoner, according to investigators, who would subsequently act as a crucial witness in the case.
According to his arrest report, Mendez allegedly asked the prisoner for help in planning the murder because he was desperate to escape the possibility of serving the rest of his life behind bars.
According to the authorities, Mendez would question the prisoner if he knew anyone who could help remove the victim, eliminating the crucial witness in his case of sexual battery. He gave investigators comprehensive details about the victim’s daily activities, such as her residence, place of employment, and place of parking, in addition to advice on how to approach her discreetly.
Murder committed from sexual battery
The witness stated that Mendez’s first idea was to use a jacket she had on the passenger seat of her automobile to strangle the victim. But according to the investigators, the two finally decided to carry out the murder with a firearm. According to the investigators, Mendez promised the prisoner that he would make arrangements for a family member to give $1,500 so that the pistol could be bought.
According to Miami-Dade police, the witness gave detectives a description of Mendez’s daily activities and routines, which supported his story. Police also seized maps that Mendez had prepared, which they claimed included explicit directions to the victim’s residence, where to park, and how to approach her covertly.
Mendez continues to be detained without bond at the MWDC when an earlier arrest warrant was served, with the addition of solicitation to commit murder to his original allegation of armed sexual battery.
