Man Charged With Kidnapping His Pregnant Ex-girlfriend For Over Two Days In Her Car

WESTLAND: Charges have been brought against a Westland man for allegedly kidnapping and detaining his pregnant ex-girlfriend for longer than two days. The woman was eventually rescued after she managed to convey a message to a clerk of a store that she had been abducted. This Monday, 29-year-old Dakota Varana was arraigned on charges of misdemeanor domestic abuse, unlawful confinement, and interference with an electronic interaction device. He is accused of being a repeat offender. Varana allegedly abducted his ex-girlfriend on Friday, September 6, when she went to see him by picking him up from the Upper Peninsula, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. He allegedly struck the woman, stealing her phone and car keys in the process.

The Person’s Acts Were Extremely Cruel

After that, the victim is said to have been detained by Varana in the car for 2.5 days. On Sunday, his mother filed a missing person’s report from her Warren home. The victim was fortunate enough to be able to inform a store clerk that she had been abducted in a note she gave to them that day. The victim’s car was located with Varana & the victim inside, according to the police’s Flock listing. It is said that Varana struck another automobile, fled the scene, and neglected to halt at a traffic stop. Finally, Westland police officers took Varana into custody.

“This person’s acts were extremely cruel in addition to being illegal. He allegedly caused unspeakable agony to both the woman and her unborn child by kidnapping and detaining his ex-girlfriend against her will, who was pregnant. According to a press release, Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido stated that “no one should ever get to feel such fear and helplessness.” A bond of $60,000 in cash or surety was set. September 24 has been set aside as his next court date.

A Victim Of Domestic Abuse

Varana was abducted in the Upper Peninsula, according to the prosecutor’s office, but no information was provided about Varana’s whereabouts or purpose for being there. The particular store where the victim gave the message to the clerk was also unclear.
