Nine students have been arrested by Broward deputies for making violent threats against schools since August

FLORIDA’S FORT LAUDERDALE: Nine Broward County Public School students have been detained for making violent threats in the previous five weeks, according to a statement released on Wednesday by deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The majority of the nine arrests—seven of which included social media—occurred during the last few weeks.

The ages of the three were eleven and twelve. The following is how BSO explained their cases: A fictitious bomb threat was reported by an 11-year-old child at Somerset Academy Key Middle/High School in Deerfield Beach on September 4. On Sunday, an 11-year-old kid threatened Central Charter School in Lauderdale Lakes over Instagram.

On Tuesday, a 12-year-old Lauderhill girl admitted to making jesting threats against schools in Lauderdale Lakes, Lauderhill, Fort Lauderdale, and Sunrise. Thirteen to fifteen-year-old youths made up the other six students detained on threats; half of them reportedly used Snapchat.

This is the case description provided by BSO. Three were thirteen years old: On August 10, a thirteen-year-old kid, enraged by the new student cellphone regulation, threatened BCPS offices in Fort Lauderdale via Snapchat.

August 12 was the first day of classes. On August 15, a girl made a joke-oriented threat against Cooper City High School on Snapchat. In response to a dare, a Parkland girl posted a threat against North Broward Preparatory School on TikTok on Tuesday.

Using Snapchat, a 14-year-old boy posted on Friday, “I’m shooting this school up,” making reference to Blanche Ely High School. On Saturday, a 14-year-old girl from Lauderdale Lakes made humorous threats against multiple schools on Instagram.

The charges

Using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony and writing threats to kill were the charges made against the seven students who were taken into custody on August 10, August 15, Friday, Sunday, and Tuesday. The young person who was arrested on September 4 is charged with one count of false reporting of a bomb, explosion, or weapon of mass destruction.

The young girl who was detained on Saturday is accused of using a two-way communication device illegally, threatening to hurl, project, place, or discharge any destructive item, and writing threats to kill or carry out a mass shooting.
