Argument Escalates at Family Gathering

The incident occurred early Sunday morning, September 15, during a boxing match watch party hosted by the family at their home on the city’s west side. Around 1 a.m., an argument broke out between the father and a neighbor, who was also a guest at the party. Police reported that the neighbor began acting aggressively, leading the father to ask him to leave. However, the neighbor refused, escalating the tension between the two men.

Gunfire Leads to Tragic Accident

Fearing for the safety of his family, the father retrieved a firearm and returned to confront the unruly neighbor. During the confrontation, the father opened fire on the neighbor, unaware that his daughter was standing outside in the line of fire. One of the bullets grazed the neighbor’s shoulder but continued traveling until it struck the daughter, who was standing in the front yard. The child was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, police told KENS. The neighbor, who sustained a shoulder wound, was last reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have not disclosed the daughter’s age, but police confirmed she is a child.

Investigation Ongoing, Charges Unclear

As of now, police have not determined whether any charges will be filed against the father. Investigators are still piecing together the events leading up to the shooting, and it remains unclear what actions, if any, will be taken against the father or the neighbor involved in the altercation. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of firearms in heated situations and the unintended consequences that can arise when emotions escalate.
