Who is suspect in Trump assassination attempt, Ryan Routh?

The suspect in an alleged assassination attempt against Donald Trump is a 58-year-old North Carolina man, Ryan Wesley Routh, who previously supported Ukraine but was rejected by its armed forces and made little impact on the war effort. Routh, who had voted for Trump in 2016 but later turned against him, had shifted his support to other politicians.

Routh is accused of arriving at Trump’s International Golf Course in Florida on Sunday with an SKS-style rifle. The FBI recovered the weapon, along with two backpacks and a GoPro camera from a bush-covered area near the course. Law enforcement claims that Routh fled when a Secret Service agent fired in his direction after spotting the rifle barrel.

Authorities believe Routh never fired his weapon and didn’t have a clear view of Trump. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said officers later identified Routh’s black Nissan vehicle and followed it for 45 minutes before stopping him on Interstate 95, where he was arrested. He now faces federal firearms charges. Investigators also noted that his phone was in the area for 12 hours before the incident, and the car’s license plates were found to belong to a stolen 2012 Ford.
