Woman Fears For Life After Carjacker Escapes House Arrest
Florida: Glenda Defas, a resident of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, says she is living in fear after receiving alarming news from the police: the man who carjacked her, Savalas Cigar, has escaped from his ankle monitor and is now on the run. Cigar, 46, was placed under house arrest following his arrest in August but has since broken free, leaving Defas and her family terrified.
A Traumatic Incident
The ordeal began when Cigar stole Defas’ car in a dramatic carjacking incident. Police chased him down Alton Road, and during the pursuit, the stolen vehicle flipped over. Cigar was eventually apprehended by authorities, charged, and placed on house arrest with an ankle monitor. While this brought some initial relief to Defas, her peace of mind was shattered when police informed her that Cigar had managed to break free from his monitoring device. Now, Defas says she is struggling to cope with the fear of not knowing where Cigar is or if he might return to harm her. “I’m very scared. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. This is no way to live,” Defas said, describing the constant anxiety that has overtaken her life since learning of his escape.
Living in Fear
Defas is especially worried about the safety of her family. She was with her brother Martine, who is deaf, during the carjacking, and now fears that both of their lives may be in danger. “I can’t continue like this,” she added, expressing her desperation for some sense of security in the face of this threat. Authorities are actively searching for Cigar, and they are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. Crime Stoppers has been enlisted to help track down the fugitive, and they can be reached at 305-471-8477.
In the meantime, Defas remains on edge, unable to regain the sense of safety that was taken from her on the day of the carjacking. As the search for Cigar continues, her story serves as a chilling reminder of the lasting impact such incidents can have on victims and their families.
