Georgia: Cledir Barros, 38, left his daughter Satra Barros, 8, unsupervised with his wife and Sayra’s stepmother even though he knew his wife had been assaulting her for more than a year. In late January, Natiela Barros allegedly lost her temper and killed Sayra with a rolling pin because she hadn’t completed her schoolwork.

Both Parents Are Charged For Homicide

In relation to the child’s death, both parents were charged; Cledir Barros’ case proceeded first in the separate trials. Cledir Barros was found guilty of second-degree cruelty to children by jurors in the third trial, following two mistrials due to a jury’s inability to reach a unanimous decision. Eight years in prison and two years of probation were the terms of the judge’s sentencing. Evidence produced by the prosecution throughout the trial demonstrated that Cledir Barros had known his wife was beating Sayra from August 2022.

Testimonies

Sayra’s teachers at Dacula’s Harbins Elementary School attested that she would frequently arrive in class with apparent injuries. Authorities were notified by the teachers about such injuries. But Barros dragged her out of the school when they asked him what was going on. Then he made plans for her to be homeschooled by Natiela Barros. During the most recent trial, Cledir Barros testified for approximately two and a half hours, stating he was unaware of the abuse. In addition, he claimed that he took her out of school as she was experiencing problems there but not at home.

Criminal Charges Against Natiela Barros

His defense attorneys emphasized that he worked as a truck driver and was away from home for a significant portion of the week before to the murder. Cledir Barros claimed that he immediately forgiven his wife despite the severity of his daughter’s death. Murder, aggravated assault, and child abuse are the charges brought against Natiela Barros. According to a news release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, officers went to a medical emergency at a home in the 300 block of Vine Springs on January 30 at 2:15 p.m.; however, her case is still pending.

Death Of Sayra Barros

Sayra had been by herself with Natiela Barros when she stopped responding. After Barros contacted her husband, he arrived at the house, began CPR, and then dialed 911. The girl was declared dead on the spot by paramedics upon the arrival of police. Given the circumstances of the killing, homicide investigators were called in to conduct an investigation. The adults in the house were questioned by them. In the days following the tragedy, police detained both parents. According to the affidavit, she struck the girl multiple times, including the neck.
