Mom Dies Month After Daughter was Killed in Palm Beach County Crash
More than a month after a tragic car accident claimed the lives of nine members of a Connecticut family in Palm Beach County, the family is now reeling from yet another devastating loss. Antianette Edwards, who has endured unimaginable grief in the past few weeks, recently lost her sister, 42-year-old Andrea Edwards, just weeks after the initial tragedy. “I’m numb. I’m numb most of the time. People talk to me, and I can’t focus,” Antianette said, describing the overwhelming pain she’s been feeling.
The Initial Tragedy: Nine Family Members Lost
On August 5, a horrific crash took the lives of nine family members when their SUV veered off the road and plunged into a canal near Belle Glade, Florida. The victims were identified as 57-year-old Pamela Wiggins, who was driving, along with 30-year-old Leiana Alyse Hall, 21-year-old Anyia Monique Lee Tucker, 14-year-old Michael Anthony Hall Jr., 8-year-old Imani Andre Ajani Hall, 5-year-olds Kamdien Edwards and Yasire Smith, 3-year-old Ziaire Mack, and 1-year-old Naleia Tucker.
The lone survivor of the crash was 26-year-old Jorden Hall, who heroically attempted to rescue the others from the water but was unable to save them. Among the victims was Antianette’s only child, her 5-year-old son Kamdien Edwards-Raynor. Antianette vividly remembers the day of the crash, saying, “He was funny. He was a daredevil even though he was small.” The loss of her son has left her in unbearable sorrow. “I just laid in bed, crying until I fell asleep. And that was 6 in the morning. I cried myself to sleep,” she recalled.
A Mother’s Heartbreak: The Loss of a Son
The death of Kamdien, her only child, has left Antianette shattered. Her pain deepened as she had to attend multiple funerals in the span of a few weeks, each ceremony reminding her of the immense loss her family had suffered. “This one is a shock. And the family is like, their heart can’t take it,” Antianette shared, describing the emotional toll the accident has had on her and her loved ones. Just as the family was trying to come to terms with the loss of nine beloved relatives, tragedy struck again.
A Broken Heart Claims Another Life
On September 10, Antianette’s sister, Andrea Edwards, died unexpectedly. Family members believe Andrea’s death was the result of a seizure, though Antianette believes it was caused by heartbreak. Two of the nine victims from the crash were Andrea’s 21-year-old daughter Anyia and her one-year-old granddaughter Naleia. The grief of losing them was too much for Andrea to bear.
“She said her heart was so broken,” Antianette said of her sister. “She didn’t know how to deal with the reality of it.” The family, still mourning the loss of nine loved ones, now faces the daunting task of planning a fourth funeral for Andrea. They have set up a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of her funeral. “It’s too much. It’s too much,” Antianette lamented, overwhelmed by the compounded grief and loss her family has suffered in such a short period.
