More information regarding the passing of FatMan Scoop has surfaced, one month after the Grammy-winning hypeman and DJ passed away on stage at a Connecticut event. Isaac Freeman, the singer of “Be Faithful,” passed away on Tuesday, the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reported to The Times. He suffered from “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.” The cause of death for FatMan Scoop was stated as “natural.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, hypertensive heart disease is a chronic illness that occurs in those who have high blood pressure over an extended period of time. According to the Mayo Clinic, atherosclerosis is the accumulation of plaque in and on the arterial walls, which can stiffen and restrict the artery, reducing blood flow to tissues and organs. Freeman’s family revealed his passing on August 30 in a statement posted on Instagram last month. According to the statement, “the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light in life and on stage.” He was 56 years old.

The rapper “had a medical emergency on stage” and was brought to a hospital in an ambulance, according to Facebook post by Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett. The singer was seen in social media footage fainting onstage at a gig in Hamden, Connecticut, prior to his death. Recalling Scoop’s impact “as evidenced by the thousands of fans that came to see what would be his last performance,” Garrett published the rapper’s family statement a day later. Soon, Missy Elliott and Chuck D were among the many people who paid tribute. Freeman’s agent, Sharron Elkabas, stated, “It’s hard to believe he is no longer with us.”

Grief for FatMan Scoop persisted for several weeks after his passing. The rapper gave his farewell performance at Town Center Park during a candlelight memorial held in honor of him by the town of Hamden in early September. The Apollo Theater in Harlem, the hometown of FatMan Scoop, honored the rapper’s life on September 12. In August, his family noted, “His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity.” “He was a contagious joy, and his generosity to everyone will be greatly missed but never forgotten.”
