Catherine “Cat” Glover, a former choreographer, dancer, singer, and rapper for Prince, has passed away at the age of 60. The cause of her death has not been disclosed. The news was announced on her official Facebook page, stating, “It is with great sadness that we formally announce the passing of Catherine Vernice Glover, AKA ‘Cat.'” The statement requested privacy for her children, family, and friends during this difficult time, with a further announcement to follow.
Glover was known for her work with Prince, serving as a choreographer, dancer, and vocalist during his Sign O’ the Times (1987) and (1988-1989) tours. She appeared in the Sign O’ the Times concert film (1987) and the Live broadcast (1989). Glover also contributed vocals to Prince’s 1988 album, where she delivered a standout rap on the hit single “Alphabet St.” She was also featured on his Black Album, originally set for release in 1987 but only issued in limited form in 1994.
In a 1987 interview with Video Soul, Glover expressed her deep admiration for Prince: “I’ve always idolized him… he’s great. I don’t think there’s anyone as creative as he is—dance, play all his instruments. I’ve sat in the studio and watched him put everything down by himself and thought, ‘My God, he’s incredible.'”
