MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota judge sentenced Elsa Segura to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for her involvement in the 2019 New Year’s Eve murder of Minneapolis real estate agent Monique Baugh. Segura pleaded guilty to kidnapping with intent to cause great bodily harm or terrorize, as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced.

Segura was initially convicted of murder and other charges in 2021, but the Minnesota Supreme Court overturned her conviction this year, citing incorrect jury instructions. The plea deal allows her to avoid a second trial.

According to prosecutors, Segura lured Baugh to a fake home showing in Maple Grove, where she was kidnapped. Baugh was later found fatally shot in a Minneapolis alley in the early hours of 2020. The killing was part of a revenge plot targeting Baugh’s boyfriend, recording artist Jon Mitchell-Momoh, who had a falling out with Lyndon Akeem Wiggins, a former business associate and drug dealer who was also Segura’s romantic partner.

Mitchell-Momoh, whom Wiggins allegedly saw as a “snitch,” was shot in front of the couple’s two young children but survived the attack.

Wiggins’ conviction was also overturned by the state Supreme Court due to faulty jury instructions, and he now awaits retrial. Two other defendants involved in the kidnapping of Baugh have had their convictions upheld. Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill sentenced all four to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
