Hoda Kotb announces she is leaving NBC’s ‘Today’ show

Longtime cohost of NBC’s Today show Hoda Kotb revealed her departure from the show on Thursday. She remarked, “I came to the realization that it was time for me to try something different at 60 and turn the page.” She mentioned how the show’s celebration of her 60th birthday marked a turning point in her life.

“I remember thinking, ‘This is what the top of the wave feels like for me,’ as I stood outside and observed this lovely group of people holding these exquisite signs. And I concluded that this is the appropriate moment for me to sort of move on because I didn’t think things could get much better.”

Kotb expressed her desire to spend more time with her kids, Hope, age five, and Haley, age seven.  She remarked, “They deserve a bigger piece of my time pie than I have.” “I feel like we are running out of time.” Though her new role was not disclosed, Kotb will continue to be a part of the NBC network and appear on the show through early 2025.

Savannah Guthrie, co-host of Today, remarked, “We love you so much, and when you look around and you see these tears, they’re love.” “We really don’t want to imagine this place without you because you are so loved.” Kotb has spent 26 years working for NBC. She joined the Today show in 2007 after working for Dateline for ten years.  Al Roker, anchor of Today, remarked, “I have never known anybody like you, and I have known you forever.”
