A 47-year-old woman tragically lost her life on Wednesday in Pierre, South Dakota, after being pinned between her vehicle and a garage wall. According to Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle, the accident occurred around 10 a.m. on the 600 block of North Huron Avenue. Officers responded to the scene shortly after the accident was reported.
How did the Accident Happen?
Based on the investigation, the woman was backing her vehicle out of the garage when she momentarily stopped and exited the vehicle for unknown reasons. While she was outside, the vehicle started rolling forward, moving back into the garage. As it rolled, the open driver’s door came into contact with the side of the garage opening. This caused the door to swing shut toward the vehicle, pinning the woman between the vehicle and its door. At this point, it is unclear whether the vehicle was left in gear or neutral, a detail that remains under investigation. Captain Pelle noted that further information would be released once more details are available, and the investigation continues into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
