Key Evidence: Surveillance Footage Shows Fatal Impact

The surveillance video shows the moment Santiesteban, driving his family’s SUV at over 80 mph, collided with another vehicle at an intersection, leading to the tragic deaths of three women. The crash, which occurred in April, has left a lasting impact on the community, and the footage has become a key element in the legal proceedings. The video reveals Santiesteban’s SUV speeding through a neighborhood, well above the 30 mph speed limit. The victim’s car, which came to a full stop at the intersection as required, was struck with overwhelming force, a collision no one could have anticipated given the excessive speed of the approaching SUV.

Three Lives Lost in Tragic Collision

The deadly incident claimed the lives of Yarina Garcia, 39, and Gloria Hernandez, 71, on the day of the crash. A third victim, Liliana Hernandez Molina, 66, tragically passed away this week after a five-month battle for her life. Liliana’s death has only compounded the grief felt by her family and loved ones. Prosecutors emphasized the senseless nature of the accident, noting that Santiesteban’s reckless speed transformed a routine drive into a fatal disaster. During a court hearing earlier in the year, prosecutor Laura Adams explained, “If the defendant had been traveling at the legal speed limit of 30 mph, he would have missed the family’s car by about 95 feet.”

Facing Serious Charges and Possible Additional Counts

Santiesteban has been charged with vehicular homicide, and with Hernandez Molina’s passing, additional charges may be brought against him. The teen was on a joyride with friends when the crash occurred, and according to the video evidence, his speed increased drastically in the seconds leading up to the collision—rising from 72 mph to 83 mph in the final moments before impact. The tragedy has devastated the families of the victims, including Hernandez Molina’s husband, Bob Garcia, who had been married to her for 43 years. “The suffering will be forever, but the one we have now is enormous,” Garcia told NBC6 in a heartfelt statement.

Santiesteban’s attorney has maintained a not-guilty plea and stated that they are reviewing all the evidence. The legal case is ongoing, with the possibility of more charges being added in light of Hernandez Molina’s death. This incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the consequences of reckless driving, particularly when it involves young, inexperienced drivers. As the legal process continues, the families of the victims are left grappling with the immense loss and the long-lasting impact this tragedy will have on their lives.
