One day subsequent to verifying the demise of Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah by a targeted bombing, the Israeli military has declared the demise of Nabil Kaouk, a high-ranking Hezbollah figure who was perceived as a possible heir. This increase in violence coincides with Israel’s ongoing war in Lebanon, which it is using to attack various Hezbollah locations deemed “terror targets”.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, expressed shock at Nasrallah’s passing and declared that it “will not go unavenged,” sparking fears of a wider regional confrontation. Although Hezbollah has not yet made a public statement regarding Kaouk’s demise, his supporters have started to grieve. A projectile from the Red Sea was intercepted by the Israeli navy as it approached its shores, while eight other projectiles fired from Lebanon touched down in the open.

There has been constant fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border as a result of the ongoing conflict. After fatal Israeli airstrikes, Lebanon fired rockets into the West Bank, prolonging the fighting during the night. The humanitarian impact of the violence has been devastating; since it began, over 700 people are said to have died and about 118,000 have been displaced.

At least 11 people were killed and 108 injured in Beirut as a result of the most recent round of airstrikes on Friday, which was the biggest attack on the Lebanese city in the previous year.
