Mayfield Leads The Bucs Over The Eagles 33-16

The Bucs Established The Tone

For the first time in twenty-one games, Mayfield & the offense scored a touchdown on their first possession after recovering from a subpar showing in a defeat to Denver the week before. The Bucs established the tone with a 10-play, 79-yard drive that culminated in Evans’ 2-yard scoring reception. The Bucs surpassed the Eagles’ 254 yards to zero in establishing a 24-0 lead.

Evans took first position on Tampa Bay’s scoring list with 596 yards after finishing with 8 receptions for 94 yards, surpassing Martin Gramatica’s 592 points. In the first quarter, Mayfield also connected with Trey Palmer for a touchdown throw. In the second quarter, he made it 21-0 with a 1-yard run on 4th and goal. A 14-play drive culminating in a 1-yard touchdown pass to Parris Campbell by Jalen Hurts was the main source of offense for Philadelphia during the Bucs’ 287-67 lead at the half.

Bay’s Second Touchdown Was Blocked

After Tampa Bay ran 22 plays in Eagles territory, the Philadelphia offense took a quarter to cross the 50-yard line. However, after Saquon Barkley opened the 2nd half with a 59-yard run to the Bucs 11, the Eagles were able to close the gap statistically and regain the lead. Hurts’ 1-yard touchdown run helped to narrow the halftime deficit to 24-7. When Tampa Bay’s second touchdown was blocked by an extra-point kick, Kelee Ringo recovered it and ran to another end of the field to score a defensive two-point extra point, cutting the Bucs’ advantage to 30-16.

This gave the Eagles a glimmer of hope. After Hurts received the kickoff, the Eagles advanced to the Bucs 19 before Lavonte David, a linebacker, sacked him, compelling a fumble that effectively ended any possibility of a victorious comeback. Hurts went from 1-4 in five career starts versus the Bucs to 1-4 as the Tampa Bay defense concluded with six sacks. Barkley carried for 94 yards on 10 carries. Hurts completed the game with 18 of 30 passes for 150 yards and no picks.
