MIAMI — Tyler Herro debuted a fresh haircut for media day, while Jimmy Butler opted for a more conventional style, much to the surprise of some fans

The Miami Heat kicked off their season in their usual unpredictable manner, with Butler delayed in arriving at the media event due to travel issues from Paris, landing in South Florida a few hours later than expected. Despite Butler’s absence, everyone else was present to mark the start of the season, including Herro, who sported a straightforward buzzcut and announced that he plans to keep it all year. “It’s all business,” he stated.

Media day serves as an annual prelude to training camp, and last year, Butler made headlines by arriving in a striking new look, complete with a dramatic hair transformation and facial piercings that quickly went viral. He referred to that period as his “Emo Jimmy” phase. The year before, he surprised everyone with dreadlocks. This time around, Butler kept things low-key.

“I’m here. Normal hair,” Butler commented. “No shenanigans. … I’ve been running around trying to make it back here. I’m just happy that I’m here.”

Butler is expected to join the team for its first practice on Tuesday as training camp opens in the Bahamas. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra expressed confidence in Butler’s readiness, stating that he is “in a good place coming into camp” and has adequately prepared for the season.

“He’s at a point now where he needs me to really coach this team at a high level,” Spoelstra noted. “He needs me to coach him at a high level, push him to higher levels, and I need him to be at his highest level as a player and leader, and the same goes for everybody else.”

Recently, Butler attended the premiere of the Netflix docuseries “Starting 5” in Los Angeles, which follows him and four other NBA stars—LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, and Domantas Sabonis—throughout the past season. Afterward, he made his way to Paris, where he was spotted at Fashion Week events and a Paris Saint-Germain soccer match on Friday night, proudly showcasing his support for the team.
