Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed in Tamarac early Tuesday morning as 59-year-old Serge Panier, a resident of Lake Worth. The tragic incident occurred around 6 a.m. at the intersection of West McNab Road and Northwest 70th Avenue. According to officials from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Panier was walking across McNab when he was initially struck by a BMW 325 CI.
The impact from the BMW knocked Panier to the ground, and he was subsequently hit by a second vehicle, which is believed to be a pickup truck. Eyewitnesses reported that the BMW remained at the scene of the accident, with its driver cooperating with law enforcement. However, the driver of the pickup truck did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the collision.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Panier was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe injuries he sustained from the two impacts. The Broward Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that traffic homicide detectives are currently investigating the incident, working to gather more information about the second vehicle involved and any witnesses who may have seen the events unfold.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in their investigation. This incident underscores the ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, prompting calls for increased awareness and measures to protect those walking along busy roadways.
