Brothers Face Federal Charges for Capitol Breach

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has accused the brothers of committing multiple offenses, including assaulting law enforcement officers, obstructing law enforcement during a civil disorder, and engaging in disorderly conduct on restricted Capitol grounds. The Jordans are facing serious federal felony charges for their actions, including assaulting officers and resisting arrest. They have also been charged with misdemeanors such as unlawful entry into restricted areas, disorderly and disruptive conduct, and other related offenses. Their arrests are part of ongoing investigations and prosecutions related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Confrontation with Law Enforcement

According to court documents, the brothers were present on the West Front of the Capitol grounds around 2 p.m. on January 6. Footage captured by body-worn cameras from Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers showed the Jordans near the north scaffolding of the Capitol building. The footage allegedly shows both brothers engaging with law enforcement officers, confronting them aggressively, and refusing to comply with commands to disperse. The situation escalated when an MPD officer brushed past Earl Jordan, who allegedly responded by throwing his elbow at the officer, causing the officer to lose balance. As officers tried to remove Earl from the area, Christopher Jordan reportedly lunged toward another officer. Both brothers continued to display “aggressive behavior,” ignoring repeated verbal warnings from law enforcement.

Violent Actions Against Officers

Further video footage allegedly shows Earl Jordan swiping at an officer’s face before grabbing the officer by the throat in an attempt to impede their ability to maintain control of the area. Meanwhile, Christopher Jordan is accused of engaging with another officer, pushing them, and attempting to grab the officer’s baton during the chaos. The brothers’ aggressive actions were part of the larger clash between rioters and law enforcement at the Capitol that day. In addition to the physical confrontations with officers, Earl Jordan is also seen in separate footage picking up a piece of metal fencing and throwing it toward the North Door of the Capitol, where law enforcement officers were stationed, struggling to prevent rioters from breaking into the building.

Ongoing Investigation and Prosecution

The Jordans are among many individuals who have been arrested and charged in connection with the January 6 riot, during which supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an attempt to disrupt the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. The investigation into the events of that day is ongoing, with federal authorities continuing to identify and prosecute those involved.

The charges against the Jordan brothers highlight the seriousness of their actions on January 6, which not only involved illegal entry into restricted areas but also direct assaults on law enforcement officers. If convicted, they could face significant prison time for their roles in the violent breach of the U.S. Capitol.
